A minimum of three years of pediatrics internship and residency is required prior to beginning subspecialty training in pediatric cardiology. Applications are available through the AAMC Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) website which opens in July of each year, for the fall application cycle. Matched fellows will begin fellowship the following year. Through ERAS, applicants submit their (MSPE) Medical Student Performance Evaluation (formerly known as the Dean’s letter), medical school transcript of grades, three letters of reference and a recent photo. Letters of reference from the pediatric program director (or chairperson) and a pediatric cardiologist familiar with the candidate are especially helpful. Also, each letter of recommendation writer needs to include a completed Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Evaluation Form with their written letter and send it to the ERAS Fellowships Documents Office (EFDO) for processing. This form is available on the ERAS website.
